Focus of the Role

As a Senior Cyber Security Advisor you will play a critical role in Telstra's Global Networks & Technology Security & Operations team driving enterprise-wide security outcomes through strategic engagement and technical leadership. You are accountable for establishing and maintaining strong collaborative relationships with key stakeholders across Cyber Assurance engagements including Group Owners, Technical Product Owners and internal business units.

Your focus will be on enabling secure delivery of business missions by providing expert guidance, simplifying complex security challenges and ensuring alignment with Telstra's risk and compliance frameworks.

What You'll Do

Global Networks & Technology - Security & Operations is responsible for Telstra's security and operations protecting Telstra's assets and infrastructure.

  • Strategic Relationship Management: Establish and maintain strong partnerships with Group & Technical Product Owners to align on evolving priorities, expectations and strategic outcomes.
  • Cybersecurity Advocacy: Champion effective cybersecurity communication across internal business units fostering a culture of security awareness and collaboration.
  • Security Assessment Engagement: Stay actively involved in mission‑critical security assessments ensuring alignment with enterprise security standards and risk posture.
  • Operational Efficiency: Identify and eliminate barriers that impede streamlined cybersecurity assessments driving continuous improvement in assessment processes.
  • End-to-End Engagement Leadership: Lead multi‑service security engagements acting as the single point of contact from initiation through to successful completion.
  • Risk Analysis & Treatment Advisory: Interpret residual security risks and recommend appropriate treatments based on industry best practices and Telstra's risk framework.
  • Security Risk Assurance Coordination: For engagements meeting defined criteria collaborate with Risk peers to conduct additional Security Risk Assurance assessments prior to Operational Security Compliance reviews.
  • Enterprise Security Guidance: Provide strategic advice on people, process and technology security controls across missions ensuring alignment with enterprise‑wide security objectives.
About You
  • Minimum 5 years of recent relevant experience in:
  • Cybersecurity operations and risk management
  • Business process reengineering
  • Operational process development and continuous improvement
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to engage effectively across all levels of the organization
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams and promote a positive enterprise‑wide security culture
  • Proven project management multitasking and organisational skills
  • High‑level theoretical and practical knowledge of security principles, frameworks and technologies
  • Solid understanding of current trends in the cybersecurity threat landscape
  • Relevant university‑level qualification in cybersecurity, information technology or a related field
  • Desirable certifications:
  • CompTIA Security+
  • (ISC)² SSCP Systems Security Certified Practitioner
  • ISACA Cybersecurity Fundamentals
  • GIAC Security Essentials (GSEC)
  • Microsoft SC‑900 Security Compliance and Identity Fundamentals
