Job summary

Queensland Government’s Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) seeks three Senior Crown Prosecutors for a newly established Ipswich chamber. You will lead complex criminal proceedings in superior courts, provide expert legal and evidentiary advice, and mentor junior staff while handling circuit work.

You must be admitted as a Legal Practitioner in Australia and demonstrate a strong ethical framework, independence, and effective leadership.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of Queensland criminal law and practice.
• Ability to prepare and conduct complex hearings, trials, sentences and appeals in superior courts.
• Provide specialist legal and tactical advice on criminal law and evidence.

Responsibilities

• Appear as leading counsel in complex criminal proceedings in superior courts.
• Provide authoritative advice to the Director of Public Prosecutions on criminal law and evidence.
• Exercise discretionary authority to initiate, vary or discontinue serious charges.
• Identify and address needs of victims of crime.
• Communicate effectively with judges, counsel, police and court officials.
• Mentor and develop Crown Prosecutors, legal officers and support staff.
• Contribute to ODPP practice improvements.
