Job summary

UNICEF Australia is seeking a Senior Legal Counsel, Governance & Legal to manage a broad range of commercial matters, privacy and risk initiatives. The role reports to the Head of Governance & Legal and supports enterprise risk, procurement, and bequests and fundraising legal matters within a flexible, not-for-profit environment.

The successful candidate will bring extensive commercial law experience, sound judgement, and the ability to collaborate across teams to strengthen governance, privacy

Qualifications

• Experience drafting, reviewing and negotiating complex commercial agreements.
• Experience advising senior leaders on a broad range of commercial legal matters.
• Interest in privacy, governance, risk management and compliance initiatives.
• Strong legal judgement and practical problem-solving ability.
• Ability to build trusted relationships with diverse stakeholders.
• Proactive and collaborative approach across the organisation.

Responsibilities

• Reviewing, drafting and negotiating a broad range of commercial agreements, including service, grant and co-operation agreements.
• Providing legal advice across areas including fundraising, bequests, privacy, intellectual property, insurance, employment law, trade sanctions and anti-corruption matters.
• Managing UNICEF Australia's insurance program, including renewals, claims and major event insurance requirements.
• Supporting improvements to privacy and procurement policies, procedures and systems.
• Contributing to organisational resilience initiatives, including business continuity planning and crisis simulations.
• Supporting the ongoing development of UNICEF Australia's enterprise and project risk management frameworks and reporting.
