Job summary

AIG is seeking a Corporate Counsel, Pacific based in Sydney to provide end-to-end legal and regulatory support for Australia and New Zealand operations. You will advise on policy wordings, endorsements and distribution arrangements, while coordinating with internal teams and external counsel.

Qualifications

• Proven post-qualified senior legal experience in-house or private practice with general insurance exposure.
• Degree in law with an unrestricted Australian practising certificate.
• Strong understanding of general insurance concepts and Australian privacy and financial services laws.
• Experience reviewing, drafting and negotiating insurance policy wordings and endorsements.
• Ability to provide practical, commercially aware legal advice with sound judgement and escalation discipline.
• Proven ability to work with underwriters, practice leaders, brokers, external counsel and global partners.
• Collaborative and flexible working style; manage multiple matters in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to handle confidential information and maintain proper records.

Responsibilities

• Review policy wordings, schedules and endorsements across products.
• Advise on form, broker-led and manuscript wordings; negotiate with brokers/clients.
• Provide legal advice on distribution models and regulatory requirements.
• Engage external counsel for specialised input when needed.
• Advise on APRA/ASIC matters and regulatory expectations.
• Sign off collateral, notices and customer materials.
• Support broader legal, regulatory and company secretarial matters.
