Job summary

AIG is seeking a Corporate Counsel, Pacific based in Sydney to provide end-to-end legal and regulatory support for Australia and New Zealand operations. You will advise on policy wordings, endorsements, distribution models and insurance regulation, working closely with internal teams and external counsel as needed.

Qualifications

• Post-qualified senior legal experience in-house or private practice with general insurance experience.
• Degree in law and unrestricted Australian practising certificate.
• Strong understanding of general insurance laws, Australian privacy law (APPs), and financial services laws.
• Experience drafting and negotiating insurance wordings, endorsements, schedules, and distribution arrangements.
• Ability to provide practical, commercially aware legal advice with sound judgement.

Responsibilities

• Provide end-to-end legal and regulatory support for AIG’s Pacific operations (Australia and New Zealand).
• Advise on product wordings, schedules, endorsements, and distribution arrangements; assess regulatory requirements.
• Advise on compliance with insurance law, Corporations Act, Insurance Contracts Act, and financial services laws; liaise with APRA and ASIC as needed.
• Instruct and collaborate with external counsel for specialised input and complex reviews.
• Support on premium funding arrangements and policy cancellation matters; review collateral and customer materials.
• Support broader legal, regulatory and company secretarial matters across the team.
