Senior Commercial Manager - Infrastructure and Assets

Job Purpose

Reporting to the GM Infrastructure and Assets, you will be primarily responsible for providing commercial, financial, and contractual expertise to the Transport Infrastructure and Assets LOB to ensure that the projects are commercially successful whilst providing governance to the systems and processes to ensure compliance. This role may be required to manage a number of staff as part of the Commercial team structure as determined by the Commercial Director and GM Infrastructure and Assets.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and advise on the formulation and execution of commercial strategies, in order to maximise the profitability of Transport projects.
  • Negotiate and settle upstream and downstream commercial positions to achieve an acceptable commercial resolution which safeguards UGL’s interests.
  • Develop and maintain effective and collaborative relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Maintain positive and effective communication channels and protocol between the Group Commercial team and Transport sector.
  • Provide regular, clear briefings, analysis and summaries of complex legal, technical and commercial bid and contract issues for non‑specialist audience and executives and offer input into the Transport Bid Strategies.
  • Provide direction on co‑ordination & review of legal position and compliance matters, in conjunction with internal UGL legal team (and, external legal advisors, where appropriate).
  • Be responsible for negotiation and finalisation of head contract terms and conditions and project risk parameters, consistent with bid risk profile, UGL Tender Policy and risk appetite or prepare and present business cases and rationale for approval to accept risk to Senior Corporate Executives.
  • Establish Contract commercial teams and ensure contractual and commercial rights and obligations are clearly communicated to the project delivery team.
  • Leading and mentoring Contract Administrators and Commercial Analysts.
  • Preparing and reviewing head contracts and commercial documents and lead contractual negotiations with the client.
  • Ensuring insurance obligations can be met for head contract by coordinating with insurance representatives.
  • Participating in effective commercial handover between tendering and projects.
Qualifications
  • Degree qualified in either Engineering, Law or Construction Management is preferred but not essential.
  • Ability to achieve outcomes in an environment of managing complex stakeholder relationships, including key business partners.
  • A sound knowledge of project management principles.
  • A sound knowledge of contracts and legal principles.
  • Skill in reading and comprehending project reports.
  • A high level of integrity and interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and confidential situations.
