Job summary

NCS Australia is seeking a Senior CloudOps Engineer to partner with clients, build and modernise applications, and optimise AWS environments in complex cloud landscapes. The role emphasizes BAU operations, automation, and architectural guidance.

You will lead incident response, RCA, and on-call support while driving automation using CloudFormation or Terraform, and collaborating with delivery and operations teams across client engagements.

Qualifications

• Experience with AWS (EC2, S3, RDS, VPC, IAM, Lambda, etc.)
• Strong networking concepts knowledge (VPNs, Direct Connect, DNS, hybrid)
• Experience supporting Windows in AWS
• Strong scripting/automation skills (PowerShell, Python, Bash)
• Hands-on monitoring/logging tools experience (CloudWatch, Splunk, LogicMonitor)
• Infrastructure-as-Code experience (Terraform or CloudFormation)
• Cloud security best practices and compliance understanding

Responsibilities

• Lead incident response, problem management, and RCA for critical issues
• Hands-on in developing code and driving automation and IaC
• Provide 24x7 on-call production support per roster
• Design, implement, and support scalable and secure AWS solutions
• Advise on performance, security, and cost optimisation for cloud services
• Engage in project-based delivery work including building and deploying new cloud solutions

Job Description

As a Senior CloudOps Engineer, you will be solving problems and partnering with our clients to help them build and modernise their applications, develop good practices and get the most out of their technology landscape. This role is BAU focused and ideal for someone who thrives in complex cloud environments, has deep AWS expertise, and can operate as a technical escalation point for delivery and operations teams.

Occasionally you will get opportunity to design, implement, and support highly available, scalable, and secure AWS solutions and manage and optimise AWS environments for clients operating within Microsoft-centric ecosystems (e.g., Windows Server, Active Directory, Azure integrations). Additionally, the role requires providing performance, security, and cost optimization recommendations for cloud services, enabling greater process efficiencies and improvements, as well as capability enhancements. You may be involved in project-based delivery work, including building, consulting and deploying new cloud solutions.

On a day-to-day basis, you’ll lead incident response, problem management, and root cause analysis for critical issues, be hands‑on in developing code, driving automation and infrastructure‑as‑code using tools such as CloudFormation or Terraform. You will also be involved in Ops and afterhours production support (24*7) roster-based on call. Most of all, you’ll have strong consulting skills, curiosity and a desire to add value.

Qualifications

Technical Expertise

• Strong experience in AWS (EC2, S3, RDS, VPC, IAM, Lambda, etc.)
• Solid understanding of networking concepts (VPNs, Direct Connect, DNS, hybrid architectures)
• Experience supporting Windows Platform in AWS
• Strong scripting and automation skills (PowerShell, Python, Bash)
• Hands‑on experience with monitoring and logging tools (CloudWatch, Splunk, LogicMonitor, etc.)
• Experience with Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform or CloudFormation)
• Strong grasp of cloud security best practices and compliance frameworks

Operational & Support Experience

• Proven experience in managed services or enterprise support environments
• Strong background in Level 3 support / escalation handling
• Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and resolve Critical production issues
• Experience with ITIL practices (certification preferable)
