The Role

We’re seeking a Senior Cloud Engineer to architect and deliver secure AWS infrastructure solutions in support of national security initiatives. This EL1-equivalent role involves working closely with cross-functional teams to design, implement, and optimise cloud services across hybrid and classified environments. You’ll play a key role in integrating emerging technologies, implementing Zero Trust Architecture, and contributing to the deployment of CNAPP/SASE tooling. This is a hands-on technical position with strategic influence across multiple agencies and partners.

Key Details

• This is a long-term contract role commencing in January 2026, with an initial 12-month term and two optional 12-month extensions.
• Location: Canberra, VIC, WA, or QLD.

Key Responsibilities

• Architect and design AWS infrastructure to meet technical and business requirements.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to optimise AWS services for cost, performance, security, and reliability.
• Coordinate with senior leadership and product owners to align cloud solutions with organisational policies (PSPF, ISM, E8).
• Implement CNAPP/SASE tooling across cloud platforms.
• Deliver Proof of Concepts (PoCs) and replicate production environments for testing.
• Integrate Azure Active Directory and Domain Services into hybrid environments.
• Design solutions that accommodate agency-specific architectures and emerging technologies.
• Work closely with industry cloud providers to ensure feasible and compliant architectures.

What You’ll Need

• Experience in cloud infrastructure, DevOps, or site reliability engineering with a focus on AWS.
• Proficiency in infrastructure-as-code tools and scripting for automation.
• Experience with Zero Trust Architecture and CNAPP/SASE tooling.
• Strong understanding of security frameworks (PSPF, ISM, E8).
• Familiarity with Azure Active Directory and hybrid cloud integration.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Ability to lead installations and decommissioning projects with quality assurance.
• Demonstrated leadership behaviours and outcome-focused mindset.
• Adaptability, resilience, and comfort with ambiguity.

Security Clearance Requirement

Applicants must be Australian Citizens with an active NV1 clearance or above.
