Job summary

Ku-ring-gai Council is seeking a Principal Certifier to manage building certification, inspections and investigations across developments in the Ku-ring-gai region.

The role requires tertiary qualifications in building surveying, NSW registration, and strong knowledge of EP&A Act and Building Code. Enjoy a 35-hour week with flexible 9-day fortnights after four weeks, and a supportive team in a beautiful NSW setting.

Qualifications

• Tertiary qualifications in building surveying with Building Surveyor registration (All classes) under the Building and Development Certifiers Act 2018.
• Sound knowledge of NSW development and building control legislation including EP&A Act 1979, EPA Regulations and Building Code of Australia.
• Experience/knowledge in Part 6 of EP&A Act 1979 assessments and management.
• Understanding of NSW Development Control Process and inspection regimes.
• Knowledge of Fire Safety Control for NSW buildings.
• Knowledge of Swimming Pools Act and Australian Standards for pool barriers.
• Understanding legal procedures at Local and Environment Courts.
• Strong reporting skills (written and verbal).
• Knowledge of WHS principles.
• White Card and a current Class C drivers license.

About the role

You will be responsible for managing an area to ensure all facets of building certification, including inspections and investigations are undertaken.

Duties

• Act as Principal Certifier by inspecting buildings during construction and after completion
• Assess applications for building and environmental certificates
• Provide construction advice to customers both internal and external
• Inspect existing buildings to ensure an adequate level of public safety
• Investigate and manage enquiries relating to area of expertise.

Skills, Qualifications & Experience

• Tertiary qualifications in building surveying or related discipline with a minimum registration of Building Surveyor restricted and or unrestricted (All classes of Buildings) under the Building and Development Certifiers Act 2018.
• Sound knowledge of legislation relating to development and building control, with particular regard to the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979 and Regulations, the Local Government Act 1993 and Regulations and the Building Code of Australia.
• Relevant experience / knowledge in assessment and management of applications under Part 6 of the Environmental Planning & Assessment Act 1979.
• Demonstrated understanding of the Development Control Process in NSW and in undertaking scheduled and critical stage inspections.
• Working knowledge of Fire Safety Control (public and private buildings within NSW)
• Knowledge of the Swimming Pools Act, Regulations and Australian Standards for construction of swimming pool barriers
• Understanding legal procedures at the Local Court and Land and Environment Court.
• Advanced reporting ability, both written and verbal
• Knowledge of Work Health and Safety Principles.
• General Construction Induction Training Card (White Card) and current class C driver’s licence.
