Job summary

AECOM is seeking an experienced ecologist to conduct field-based surveys and lead ecological projects across WA. You will plan, execute and analyse biodiversity assessments, supporting multi-disciplinary tenders and client delivery.

Join a global environment team with hybrid work options and opportunities to advance technical reporting using GIS tools and robust environmental governance. WA-based role with field duties and travel as required.

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in environmental science, ecology, botany or similar.
  • 5+ years experience conducting and leading botanical surveys in WA.
  • Proficiency with GIS desktop and data collection tools (ArcGIS, Fieldmaps).
  • WA driving licence and ability to work outdoors on field programmes.
  • Knowledge of Commonwealth and State environmental legislation.

AECOM's environmental practice is dedicated to helping industries, clients and governments meet their environmental responsibilities while protecting the natural environment. We provide advisory and technical services to ensure compliance, manage impacts, and reduce risks, including obtaining permits and approvals, decommissioning and restoring contaminated sites, and tackling climate change challenges and resilience. We focus on preserving habitats, water quality, stakeholder engagement and cultural resources, promoting a holistic approach to environmental impact management at every project stage.

How you’ll make a difference:

  • Conduct field-based ecology survey work, including baseline surveys, monitoring programmes, and targeted flora and weed assessments across various bioregions.
  • Lead and manage ecological projects, supporting internal clients with multi-disciplinary tenders and deliverables.
  • Plan, deliver, and analyse ecology surveys independently or collaboratively, performing impact assessments and designing mitigation strategies.
  • Assist in managing the technical performance and delivery of ecological projects, ensuring high-quality outcomes.
Qualifications

The qualities that help you thrive:

  • Undergraduate degree in environmental science, ecology, botany or similar
  • Excellent field skills with 5+ years experience conducting and leading botanical surveys in various WA environments, including mining, remote, and Perth Metro areas
  • Strong technical reporting skills proficiency in GIS desktop and data collection packages (e.g., ESRI ArcGIS and Fieldmaps)
  • WA driving licence and ability to work outdoors on short and extended field programmes
  • Working knowledge of Commonwealth and State environmental legislation (EPA technical guides, BC Act)
