Grant Thornton Australia Limited in Sydney is seeking a Senior Associate to join the Corporate Tax team with a focus on Financial Services clients. You will advise on Australian taxation, perform tax planning, due diligence and support deals, while working closely with Partners in a collaborative, supportive environment.

Qualifications

• University degree in Accounting/Finance/Business is required.
• FS tax advisory experience or interest in FS clients is preferred.
• Knowledge of Australian taxation and basic tax calculations is expected.
• Analytical mindset with ability to apply knowledge to routine matters.
• Experience coaching junior team members and a strong work ethic.

Responsabilités

• Prepare and review company and trust tax returns for large FS clients.
• Assist with tax consulting, tax consolidation, treaties, and other complex issues.
• Support M&A activities including tax structuring and due diligence.
• Prepare advice and calculations for international tax issues.
• Assist with ATO reviews, governance matters and audits.
• Collaborate with Partners and support business development initiatives.

About this role

We are looking for a Senior Associate with Financial Services industry knowledge (or an interest in working with FS clients) to join our Corporate Tax team in Sydney. Working as part of an established, highly knowledgeable and supportive team to deliver an exceptional experience for financial services clients – from banks, private equity and funds managers to insurance providers – you will advise on a wide range of matters relating to the Australian taxation regime.

About the team

Our Corporate Tax team provides tailored advice and insights for every aspect of the corporate tax process, helping our clients to manage business-specific tax challenges such as tax audits, international tax issues, corporate governance obligations, and mergers and acquisitions, including due diligence and deal structuring. Within this service line, the Grant Thornton Financial Services practice assists clients in staying ahead of change in this rapidly evolving environment, with regulatory change impacting every part of the sector: with governance, system, performance and conduct all under the spotlight. Key responsibilities

• Preparation and review of company and trust tax returns for a wide range of large financial services clients
• Research and assistance with tax consulting advice (such as tax consolidation, tax treaties, hybrid mismatches, Controlled Foreign Companies, withholding taxes, thin capitalisation, permanent establishments, AMITs etc)
• Assist clients with M&A activities, including tax structuring and tax due diligence services
• Research and assist with preparing advice and calculations in connection with international tax issues
• Assist clients with ATO reviews, governance matters and audits
• Work with the ATO to obtain rulings for clients
• Research and analyse technical tax issues and preparation of tax reports
• Assist with business development initiatives and proposals

Skills and experience

• University degree in a related discipline, such as Accounting / Finance, Business / Commerce, Legal and / or relevant professional qualification(s)
• Corporate tax professional services experience working with financial services clients (or an interest in doing so)
• Good understanding of taxation of entities in Australia and basic understanding of taxes
• Understanding of basic tax effect accounting calculations to determine tax liabilities
• Analytical skills and an inquisitive mindset, with a desire to deeply understand clients’ businesses, challenges and confident in applying knowledge to routine matters
• Previous experience assisting and coaching less experienced team members
• Demonstrable strong work ethic and commitment to excellent client service
