Job description

We have a Senior Associate role in our Property team, which can be based across either our Sydney, Melbourne, or Adelaide offices.

You will be a senior member of a specialised and focused team. You will run your own matters, work closely with senior lawyers and principals, and have direct access to clients. You should be largely autonomous and know when to call on a second opinion.

This suits someone who likes clear responsibility, enjoys working with business owners, developers and landlords and is comfortable being a key contact for property work.

We offer a strong remuneration structure that includes a competitive base salary, super and an uncapped bonus scheme.

The work

You will work across a broad mix of matters, including:

Property transactions and development

• Commercial and residential sales and acquisitions.
• Development agreements, acquisitions and disposals.
• Due diligence, contract negotiation, structuring and settlement.
• Development projects from site acquisition through planning, titling, subdivisions and off the plan contracts.

Leasing

• Retail, commercial and industrial leases.
• Agreements for lease, renewals, variations and portfolio work.

Strategic advisory and team

• Practical advice for clients in childcare, retail, hospitality and property development.
• Property input that aligns with our broader corporate, regulatory and commercial work.
• Mentoring junior lawyers and helping refine how we deliver high service property work.

About you

You are a senior property lawyer who is comfortable managing matters and relationships.

You are a problem solver. Problem identification is not enough at Hitch.

You will likely have:

• Ideally 6-7 years, post admission experience in property law across commercial and residential matters.

Strong experience in:

• Commercial property sales and acquisitions.
• Development project advisory.
• Development agreements, acquisitions and disposals.
• Commercial, retail and industrial leasing.
• High level drafting skills and strong attention to detail.
• Experience running files independently and working directly with clients.

It is a plus if you also have:

• Experience with clients in childcare, pharmacy or development.
• Experience with strata work, including drafting by laws.
• Experience advising on building contracts.
• A portable client base or referrer network.
