Job summary

DWF Law LLP is seeking an Associate – Insurance Services to join our Melbourne, Sydney or Brisbane teams. You will support senior fee earners in proactive management of matters within the General Insurance practice, providing high quality legal advice across public liability matters, and defending proceedings.

Qualifications

  • Qualified to practice law in Australia.
  • 2+ years post-qualification experience preferred.
  • Experience in insurance litigation is advantageous.

Responsibilities

  • Assist senior fee earners with day-to-day conduct of litigated and unlitigated files.
  • Draft and review pleadings, motions, and settlement agreements.
  • Provide expert legal advice throughout the litigation process.
  • Appear in court and instruct counsel.
  • Communicate with external stakeholders and contribute to business development.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Full-time Associate – Insurance Services to join our team in Melbourne, Sydney, or Brisbane. In this role, you will support senior fee earners in the proactive management of matters within the General Insurance practice group.

You will provide high-quality legal advice and representation across a broad spectrum of public liability matters, with a particular focus on personal injury. Responsibilities include providing coverage advice to insurers, defending proceedings, drafting legal documents, and assisting with the effective management of claims and disputes.

Responsibilities
  • Assisting senior Fee Earners with the day-to-day conduct of a range of litigated and unlitigated files.
  • Drafting and reviewing legal documents, including pleadings, motions, and settlement agreements.
  • Assisting with document review and analysis.
  • Attending to legal research and analysis.
  • Provide expert legal advice throughout the litigation process.
  • Appearing in court and instructing counsel.
  • Communicating with external stakeholders such as other parties, Insured clients, counsel and experts.
  • Assisting with business development opportunities.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant laws, regulations, and industry trends.
  • Following all the Firm’s policies and procedures.
  • Ensuring confidentiality is maintained at all times.
What will help you succeed in this role?
  • Admission to practice law in Australia.
  • Minimum of 2 years Post-Qualification Experience.
  • Experience in insurance litigation is highly regarded.
  • Desire to assist others and work collaboratively in a high performing team.
  • An interest in fee-earning and case management.
  • High level of competency with iManage (or similar document management system) and time recording software.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • High level of proficiency with Microsoft Office products (including Word, PowerPoint, Outlook and Excel), along with the willingness to be trained further.
  • A willingness to adopt and utilise AI and new technologies.
  • A proactive attitude with the ability to learn quickly.
  • Excellent organisational and administrative skills.
  • High level of professionalism and ethical standards.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
