Job summary

La Trobe University in Melbourne is seeking a Senior Analytics Engineer to design and deliver scalable data products, semantic layers and analytics-ready assets that support university-wide decision-making in Azure, Databricks and dbt environments.

You will mentor teammates, drive governance and modelling standards, collaborate with data engineers, analysts and stakeholders, and contribute to AI-ready analytics initiatives, while hands-on with technology.

Qualifications

• Significant experience delivering enterprise data and analytics solutions.
• Advanced expertise in SQL, dimensional modelling and analytics engineering practices.
• Experience working with modern cloud data platforms such as Azure, Databricks and dbt.
• Strong understanding of data governance, metadata, lineage and data quality principles.
• Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
• The ability to work independently while contributing positively to a collaborative team environment.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop and own scalable Gold-layer data products, semantic models and analytics-ready data assets that support enterprise decision‑making.
• Build and optimise semantic layers that support enterprise reporting and self‑service analytics.
• Collaborate with data engineers, analysts and business stakeholders to translate requirements into effective solutions.
• Champion best‑practice data modelling, testing, documentation and governance standards.
• Mentor junior team members and contribute technical leadership across the analytics engineering capability.
• Support the delivery of innovative analytics and AI‑ready solutions that create value for the University community.
• Act as a technical authority for analytics engineering, establishing modelling standards, reusable patterns and quality practices across the University.
