Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) is seeking a Senior Advisor Investigation Services in Sydney to lead a specialist team and provide expert compliance and enforcement guidance across the organisation. You will work with inspectors, legal colleagues and external partners to strengthen regulatory capability and ensure effective breach reporting and infringement procedures.

Qualifications

• Certificate IV in Government Investigations per Australian Government Investigation Standard 2022.
• Certificate IV in Training and Assessment or substantial experience supporting operational law enforcement teams.
• Experience managing inspectorate, compliance or enforcement programs.
• Understanding of Marine Safety (Domestic Commercial Vessel) National Law Act 2012 and Navigation Act 2012.
• Operational experience in compliance, enforcement and investigations within Commonwealth frameworks.
• Experience developing training, guidance and family liaison or stakeholder support programs.

About the Role

As the Senior Advisor Investigation Services, you will lead a team responsible for supporting AMSA's compliance and enforcement activities, providing specialist advice to inspectors and strengthening regulatory capability across the organisation.

Working with operational teams, legal specialists and external compliance partners, you will oversee key programs including AMSA's breach reporting process, infringement notice scheme and Family Liaison Program. You will also lead the development of guidance, training and projects that support the consistent and effective use of compliance and enforcement powers.

This role offers the opportunity to apply your investigations, compliance or regulatory expertise in a complex operational environment that contributes directly to maritime safety and environmental protection.

In this role you will:

• Lead and develop a team of specialist compliance and investigation professionals.

What We're Looking For

Qualifications and Experience

• Qualifications in law enforcement, investigations or regulatory compliance that meet the requirements of the Australian Government Investigation Standard 2022, including a minimum Certificate IV in Government Investigations.
• A Certificate IV in Training and Assessment, or substantial experience supporting operational law enforcement, investigation or regulatory compliance teams.
• Significant experience managing and coordinating inspectorate, compliance or enforcement programs.
• Demonstrated understanding and experience with the Marine Safety (Domestic Commercial Vessel) National Law Act 2012 and the Navigation Act 2012.
• Proven operational experience in compliance, enforcement and investigations, including within Commonwealth compliance and enforcement frameworks.
• Demonstrated experience developing and delivering training, guidance and family liaison or stakeholder support programs.

• Excellent communication skills, including the ability to provide advice on sensitive matters and prepare high-quality written material.
