Job summary

Teach For Australia seeks a Senior Advisor, Government Relations, to provide expert, strategic advice on policy and funding landscapes across Commonwealth, state and territory levels.

The role develops and implements government relations plans, prepares briefs, writes submissions, and conducts education policy research to support ongoing funding and partnerships. This is a full-time fixed-term position with hybrid work and travel across Australia.

Responsibilities

• Provide expert strategic advice on policy and funding landscapes across Commonwealth, state and territory levels.
• Develop and implement government-relations plans to promote Teach For Australia and secure ongoing support and funding.
• Prepare briefs, write correspondence and policy submissions, and conduct education policy research.
• Coach State and Territory Managers to manage government contracts and relationships with Ministers, advisers, MPs, public servants, unions and regulators.
• Engage with external stakeholders to advance policy positions and consult with internal stakeholders to lead policy development.

This role can be performed anywhere across Australia, with some travel required as needed for events.

About The Role

The Senior Advisor, Government Relations, provides expert, strategic advice and support on matters related to the political and policy landscapes and authorising environments in which Teach For Australia (TFA) operates. The role develops and implements strategic and tactical policy, government relations and influencing plans that promote TFA and ensure ongoing support and funding for TFA's work within each jurisdiction.

Alongside preparing briefs, writing correspondence and policy submissions, and undertaking education policy research, the Senior Advisor coaches and supports TFA's State and Territory Managers to effectively manage their government contracts and relationships with Ministers, political staff, MPs, public servants, unions, regulators and other influencers. The Senior Advisor also engages directly with external stakeholders as needed in support of TFA's Federal, State and Territory Government relations and policy work, and consults with internal stakeholders to lead policy position development.

Key Selection Criteria

• Comprehensive understanding of the Australian political and education policy landscapes, at Commonwealth, state and territory levels.
• Excellent written communication skills – notably the ability to provide concise, compelling and influential material for government officials, advisers and politicians.
• Excellent verbal communications skills including ability to represent the organisation in a wide range of external environments.
• Ability to analyse complex policy, including government announcements, legislative change and budget papers.
