Job summary

Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions in Kings Park is seeking a Research Scientist (Seed Conservation) or Senior Research Scientist to lead innovative seed science research. The role focuses on seed banking, propagation and ex situ conservation of Australian flora, with oversight of staff and collaboration with partners.

The successful candidate will publish findings, supervise technicians, and drive partnerships and funding to advance seed conservation programs and policy

Qualifications

• Broad knowledge of seed science, storage behaviour and germination.
• Experience designing and managing lab- and field-based seed conservation research projects.
• Strong written and verbal communication, including leading peer‑reviewed publications.
• Ability to contribute to or lead funding proposals to support seed conservation programs.
• Interpersonal skills for collaboration with diverse stakeholders and teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead scientific research for seed banking, propagation and utilisation for ex situ conservation.
• Supervise laboratory and field technicians to deliver projects.
• Publish research in peer‑reviewed journals and prepare technical reports.
• Build partnerships and seek funding to enhance program outcomes.
