Job description

News Corp Australia Sydney, AUS - Sydney NSW

Full time

QLD - BHS Cnr Mayne Road & Campbell Street Bowen Hills

VIC - SBK HWT Tower 40 City Road Southbank

Full time

What's the role?

Treating screens like a fast-moving news beat, this role blends sharp breaking entertainment news reporting with insightful criticism, episodic recaps, and deep-dive features. If you know how to spot the next watercooler hit, turn a binge-watch into high-converting digital journalism, and talk about pop culture on camera, this is your next move.

This role can be based out of any of our offices nationally.
About the role

In this role, you will deliver high-engagement coverage across the full spectrum of screen and audio entertainment:

Break exclusive daily news across TV, streaming platforms, cinema, podcasting, and music culture with speed and precision.

Deliver sharp, voice-driven reviews and critical analysis of new film and television releases designed to drive digital subscriptions.

Produce behind-the-scenes profiles and inside stories.

Write insightful, conversation-starting recaps for priority series that keep readers glued to the page and returning week after week.

Adapt written coverage into engaging short-form social videos, feature as an on-air voice, and contribute to our newsletter.

Track release dates at least four weeks out, pitch proactively, and apply consistent national taxonomy and tagging across every piece of published work.

Flexibility on content - while each writer owns their primary round, our entertainment pillar operates as an agile team where all journalists actively collaborate and contribute to our biggest national tentpoles, investigations, and breaking cultural moments

Who are you?

We are looking for an ambitious digital journalist who pairs strong critical instincts with an appetite for scoops:

You possess comprehensive, up-to-the-minute knowledge of the Australian and international TV, streaming, film, and music landscapes.

You have demonstrated experience working a beat, cultivating insider contacts, and breaking exclusive stories under deadline pressure.

You are an accomplished reviewer with a distinctive perspective who can evaluate pop culture with wit, clarity, and authority.

You thrive in a high-volume newsroom environment, turning around clean, engaging, and well-structured copy at speed without sacrificing quality.

You understand how to read analytics such as time-on-page and subscriber conversion metrics, to continually sharpen editorial focus and hook paying readers.

You are comfortable presenting on camera, generating social video assets, or contributing to video panels and audio discussions (or eager to build on existing on-camera experience).

Why Join Us?

Shape the national conversation on what to watch, stream, and listen to next.

Opportunities to expand your personal profile across video, newsletters, and digital platforms.

A supportive, fast-paced editorial culture focused on quality journalism and digital growth.
