Job summary

Healius is seeking a Multi-disciplined Relieving Scientist to operate across Metro Central stat labs with occasional relief in regional areas. The role requires an AIMS-accredited degree with Haematology, Biochemistry, Microbiology and Transfusion Science focus.

You’ll work a minimum of 76 hours per fortnight on a rotating 24-hour roster, including weekends and public holidays. Responsibilities include specimen processing, analyser operation (AU680, DxC700AU, ACCESS 2, XN1000, etc.), rapid

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science, Medical Laboratory Science or equivalent with AIMS accredited degree.
• Demonstrated discipline expertise across Haematology, Biochemistry, Microbiology and Transfusion Science.
• Strong knowledge of QC, QAP and troubleshooting.
• Ability to identify, develop and implement quality/service improvements per accreditation.
• Independent work approach with minimal supervision.
• Commitment to quality, teamwork and policy adherence.

Responsibilities

• Handle specimen receipt and processing.
• Operate and maintain analysers (Beckman AU680, DxC700AU, etc.).
• Perform Rapid PCR on GeneXpert.
• Conduct seminal analysis and STAT microscopy as required.
• Monitor QC and participate in surveys.
• Liaise with departments and external customers.

Location:30 Chasely Street, Auchenflower QLD 4066 (The Wesley Hospital)

Work type: Permanent Full Time 38 hours/week

Schedule: The position has shifts covering a 24hour roster and will include rolling rosters and public holiday shifts.

About The Role

A position for a full time Multi-disciplined Relieving Scientist is currently available with the opportunity to work across the Metro Central stat labs and occasional relief at Sunshine Coast, Gold Coast and north Queensland, Tasmania regional areas. Applicants must possess an AIMS accredited Laboratory medicine degree with areas of study including Haematology, Biochemistry, Microbiology and Transfusion Science. The position is for a minimum of 76 hours per fortnight (Monday-Sunday) in a rotating 24-hour roster and will include weekend, public holiday and night shifts. Extra hours are occasionally available.

• Specimen receipt and processing
• Use and maintenance of the following analysers: Beckman Coulter AU680, DxC700AU, ACCESS 2, XN1000, Haemocue, CA-660, ABL90, Grifols Eflexis and DG reader, Elecsys, Aerospray stainer, and Triage
• Rapid PCR on the GeneXpert
• Perform seminal analysis
• Perform STAT Microscopy
• QC monitoring
• Participate in Internal and External surveys
• Liaison between other departments and external customers (hospital staff).

About You

To be considered for this position, you will need to meet the essential requirements:

• Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Applied Science (Medical Laboratory Science) or equivalent. Applicants shall possess an AIMS accredited degree with areas of study including Haematology, Biochemistry, Microbiology and Transfusion Science.
• Demonstrated experience, knowledge, expertise and skills within the respective discipline
• Sound knowledge of QC, QAP and troubleshooting
• Demonstrated ability to identify, develop and implement quality and service improvement activities in accordance with NATA/ISO accreditation/certification
• Ability to perform duties with a high degree of independence and with infrequent supervision
• An outstanding commitment to quality and excellence
• A willingness to adhere to departmental and organisational policies and procedures
• A positive attitude toward achieving outcomes and being a cohesive, contributing team member
• Strong time management, interpersonal, communication and organisational skills
• The ability to manage and thrive in a busy environment
• Previous experience is preferred
• Ability to provide evidence of immunisation requirements including Hepatitis B
