Job summary

Laverty Pathology is seeking a Scientific Officer to join a busy laboratory team at Barrack Heights NSW. The role involves performing manual and automated diagnostic testing, handling specimens from reception to result, and participating in QA activities.

The position is part time (23 hours per week) with a rotating on-call roster and opportunities for skill development. You will work within the Healius network, contributing to high-quality pathology services and collaborating with clinicians

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Applied Science (Medical Laboratory Science) or equivalent.
• AIMS certification as a Medical Scientist if your degree was acquired overseas.
• Demonstrated experience, knowledge, expertise and skills within Haematology and Biochemistry disciplines is desirable.
• Sound knowledge of QC, QAP and troubleshooting.
• Ability to identify, develop and implement quality and service improvement activities in accordance with NATA/ISO accreditation/certification.
• Perform duties with a high degree of independence and with infrequent supervision.
• An outstanding commitment to quality and excellence.
• A willingness to adhere to departmental and organisational policies and procedures.
• A positive attitude toward achieving outcomes and being a cohesive, contributing team member.
• Strong time management, interpersonal, communication and organisational skills.

Responsibilities

• Perform manual and automated diagnostic testing
• Performing all routine procedures from point of specimen reception to execution of results for Pathological diagnosis
• Assisting with Stock Control
• Compliance with records maintenance and recording of results in line with protocols
• Maintaining all equipment and operating equipment in line with protocols
• Maintaining current scientific knowledge
• Participation in both routine and audit related Quality Assurance activities
• Contributing to continuous improvement and the development of new assays as required
• Participating in staff training
• Liaising with internal and/ or external stakeholders (referring practitioners) regarding test results or referrals as necessary
• Compliance and adherence with Policies and Procedures, Workplace Health and Safety Procedures and Quality Assurance Processes.
• Participate in a rotating on call roster
