Biosecurity Queensland (BQ) plays a leadership role in the biosecurity system in collaboration with its stakeholders. BQ leads the Queensland Government's efforts to protect our way of life, environment, biodiversity, human and animal health, industries and economy from plant and animal pest and disease threats.
Through supporting the collective efforts of our stakeholders and all Queenslanders, BQ will continue to protect our state and Australia from emerging plant and animal pests and diseases and effectively manage existing ones.
Invasive Plants and Animals (IP&A) significantly affect the environment, agricultural production, infrastructure, human health and our way of life in general. The IPA program directs, facilitates and delivers strategic and targeted action to reduce the impact of invasive species in Queensland.
As our Science Technician, you will accurately perform scientific tasks in accordance with relevant standard operating procedures (SOPs), protocols or methodologies to support the generation of valid data and ongoing compliance with relevant quality standards, laboratory accreditations, workplace health and safety requirements and legislative obligations. This work will support the host testing of biological control agents on a range of plant species to determine if the biological control agent is specific to the exotic plant host and the economic and/or environmental risk of release is low.
You will have a keen eye for detail, great time management and effective problem-skilling skills. More than anything, you will have a positive attitude and make a great contribution to our close-knit and connected team.
