Job summary

Rainbow Street Public School is seeking a School Learning and Support Officer to join our inclusive learning community. This full-time ongoing role supports students with disabilities and works as part of a collaborative team.

The SLSO will help build positive relationships, assist with learning activities, and support student wellbeing within Rainbow Street Public School’s Inclusive Hub, alongside a Special Education Teacher.

Qualifications

• Working with Children Check Clearance.
• Mandatory training required by the Department of Education and willingness to undertake first aid training.
• Administration of Medications – training to be provided based on student needs.
• Health support training to be provided based on student needs (subject to transition provisions).
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team.
• Ability to work with students with emotional, physical or intellectual disabilities.
• Awareness of the needs of students with emotional, physical or intellectual disabilities.
• Effective communication skills.

Rainbow Street Public School’s Inclusive Hub has four support classes, catering for students with Autism, Moderate Intellectual Disability, Mild Intellectual Disability, and Mental Health needs. Each class is supported by a Special Education Teacher and a School Learning and Support Officer (SLSO). This collaborative approach ensures students receive individualised support while developing their independence, confidence and capacity to engage meaningfully in their learning and school community.

The role of the School Learning and Support Officer (SLSO) is centred around building positive, respectful and trusting relationships with students. By creating a safe and supportive environment, SLSOs help students feel valued, understood and confident to participate in their learning.

As part of our inclusive philosophy, Rainbow Street Public School Inclusive Hub students are supported to integrate with our mainstream students in classes, school activities, excursions, sporting opportunities, social events and other whole school experiences.

Essential Requirements
