This newly created vacancy aims to provide support for students in a recently established support class. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with teachers to address the diverse needs of all students.
School Learning Support Officers provide support for students with identified diverse learning needs including disability in classrooms and other learning environments under the direction and supervision of a teacher to support the achievement of educational outcomes. This support includes student welfare, health and wellbeing activities as required. In addition, School Learning Support Officers may provide specific support for students in pre‑school, vision support, hearing support, and bilingual streams or settings. Officers working in these streams/settings have specific additional duties, in addition to the general duties for School Learning Support Officers that are required to be performed.

Ultimo Public School is an inner‑city school located on the fringe of the vibrant Darling Harbour and Chinatown precincts. In 2020, the school underwent a major rebuild, transforming our teaching environments into flexible, collaborative learning spaces that inspire innovation and engagement. Enrolments continue to grow, with projections for 2026 reaching 515 students across 21 classes.
Our school proudly serves a diverse community, with 71% of students from language backgrounds other than English. 62.7% of our students require EAL/D (English as an Additional Language or Dialect) support, and 3.5% identify as Aboriginal. Our students come from a broad spectrum of socio‑economic backgrounds. Our Chinese Community Language program plays a vital role in helping students maintain and further develop their communicative competence in their community language, strengthening cultural identity and inclusion.
From 2026, we are excited to introduce our newly established support class. Additionally, our Assistant Principal of Learning and Wellbeing will continue to focus on ensuring the needs of all students are appropriately catered for, while supporting classroom teachers to create and maintain supportive and inclusive learning environments.
Through a thorough situational analysis, we have identified the importance of maintaining high expectations for wellbeing alongside effective, consistent teaching and learning programs across the school. Collaborative practice and constructive feedback will underpin co‑teaching environments and foster continuous improvement. Using multiple data sources, including assessment information, the school has identified target areas within reading and numeracy that require focused attention.
A strong emphasis on instructional leadership will drive explicit teaching practices across the school. Teaching and learning programs will be responsive to data, with support from our Assistant Principal of Curriculum and Instruction to assist classroom teachers in analysing data and implementing effective pedagogy to meet the diverse needs of our students.
