Job summary

Qualifications

• Demonstrated ability to develop positive, respectful and trusting relationships with primary-aged students and support students within MTSS.
• Recognise emerging concerns, respond appropriately and implement practical strategies to promote engagement, inclusion and belonging.
• Excellent interpersonal skills with students, parents/carers and staff; collaborate on wellbeing planning and support.
• Knowledge of child development, inclusive practice, Victorian Child Safe Standards, and relevant education policies.
• Ability to manage competing priorities, caseloads and develop practical programs to improve wellbeing and school engagement.

Responsibilities

• Provide or facilitate support, counselling and guidance to students referred by teachers or parents/guardians.
• Develop networks with external service providers to assist students and families.
• Monitor social, emotional and learning progress and report to staff.
• Develop and implement procedures to address welfare and emotional needs of students.
• Create intervention programs to support curriculum and identified student groups.
• Liaise with parents and external specialists; refer students when needed.
• Maintain records in accordance with legislation.
• Participate in pastoral and health programmes for students.
• Help develop policies for student counselling and wellbeing in line with regulations.
• Counsel students individually or in groups to build resilience.
• Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team with school leadership and staff.
• Support teaching staff with preventative programs and classroom interventions.
