Job summary

Transport for NSW is seeking a Safety Environment & Quality Officer to support statewide operations from Newcastle. You will lead assurance activities, contractor governance, and continuous improvement of SEQ systems, ensuring safety outcomes across regional maintenance teams.

The role requires strong stakeholder engagement, data analysis, and collaboration across geographically dispersed teams, with a tertiary qualification or equivalent experience.

Qualifications

• Provide high level assurance activities for SEQ across RRNM and regional maintenance areas.
• Lead contractor management activities: reviews, risk, audit and assurance per SEQ systems and governance.
• Analyse system performance data to prepare reports and identify actionable insights.
• Demonstrate strong communication and stakeholder engagement throughout projects.
• Be a collaborative, detail‑oriented professional focusing on continuous improvement.
• Bring experience in Safety, Environment and Quality systems, governance and assurance.

Responsibilities

• Provide high level assurance activities for stakeholders across RRNM and broader regional maintenance areas, supporting compliance, governance and continual improvement of Safety, Environment and Quality systems.
• Lead and participate in contractor management activities including system reviews, risk, audit and assurance, guiding SEQ compliance and performance.
• Analyze and interpret system performance data to prepare reports, identify trends and provide practical recommendations for decisions and improvements.
• Demonstrate strong communication and stakeholder engagement to support collaboration and outcomes.
• Contribute as a collaborative, detail-oriented professional to strengthen organisational safety performance.
• Apply experience in SEQ governance and assurance to drive continuous improvement across teams.
• Work independently and with dispersed teams to achieve objectives.
• Hold tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline or equivalent demonstrated experience.

In this role, you'll:

• You will provide high level assurance activities for stakeholders across RRNM and broader regional maintenance areas, supporting compliance, governance and continual improvement of Safety, Environment and Quality systems.
• You will lead and participate in contractor management actitivites including contractor system reviews, risk, audit and assurance activities, providing interpretation and guidance on SEQ systems, legislative requirements and best practice to support consistent systems performance across RRNM operations.
• You will analyse and interrogate system performance data to prepare reports, identify trends and provide practical recommendations that support informed decision making, support assurance reporting and collaborate with stakeholders to drive continuous improvement, compliance and positive business outcomes.
• You bring strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
• You’re recognised as a collaborative and detail-oriented professional, skilled at analysing information and identifying opportunities for continuous improvement.
• You bring experience in Safety, Environment and Quality systems, governance and assurance to strengthen organisational performance and safety outcomes.
• You have the ability to work both independently and collaboratively across geographically dispersed teams.
• You have tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline or equivalent demonstrated experience.

Location

This role supports a statewide operational team. Applicants may be based at any major RRNM base locations across NSW.
