Job summary

Agricultural Appointments is seeking an experienced farm leader to head a major improvement program on a large rural property near Craigieburn, 35 minutes north of Melbourne. You will oversee sheep and cattle operations, design pasture improvement plans and oversee grazing, fertiliser use and livestock production.

You will work with the General Manager, assess land and enterprise potential, develop commercial options including potential feedlot or on-farm processing, and coordinate contractors

Qualifications

• Experience leading hands-on sheep and/or cattle operations.
• Strong knowledge of pasture improvement and grazing management.
• Ability to develop a commercially grounded plan and lead its implementation.
• Practical, self-directed approach with good organisation and communication.

Responsibilities

• Assess agricultural capability of owned and leased properties and identify opportunities to improve productivity.
• Develop and deliver a staged plan for pasture improvement, fertiliser use, grazing and livestock production.
• Assess complementary cropping opportunities as part of a diversified plan.
• Oversee day-to-day sheep and cattle operations and stocking decisions.
• Coordinate resources, contractors and farm infrastructure to deliver safe, efficient outcomes.
• Evaluate potential new ventures and provide clear commercial recommendations.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to improve land management on leased properties.
