Job summary

Queensland Rail in Cairns is seeking a hands-on technician to maintain and repair Traveltrain rollingstock, including the Kuranda Scenic Railway. You will perform preventative maintenance and fault-finding across delivery-ready trains, contributing to reliable services for travellers.

This fixed-term, fulltime role based at Portsmith Depot offers an 8-day fortnight roster, training, and strong safety focus. Successful applicants will join a supportive team with PPE and uniforms provided.

Qualifications

• Must hold a current National Driver’s Licence (Class C).
• Must hold a Mechanical Engineering Trade Certificate.
• Experience with preventative maintenance on rollingstock is essential.
• Ability to diagnose faults and perform repairs safely.

Responsibilities

• Carry out preventative maintenance, repairs and fault-finding on Traveltrain rollingstock, including Kuranda Scenic Railway units.
• Support carriage overhaul and refurbishment programs.
• Respond to in-service defects and incidents to minimise customer impact.
• Maintain a clean, safe depot environment and record maintenance data in enterprise systems.
• Collaborate with an experienced team to ensure timely service delivery.
