Job summary

Macquarie Group is seeking a hands-on Senior Software Engineer to help deliver an AI-first risk platform supporting investment management across assets. You will develop high-quality software, shape technical direction, and own quality, reliability and continuous improvement.

The platform uses Claude Code within the development workflow, with AI agents assisting design, implementation and testing to maintain pace and quality.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of software engineering with Python and modern tooling.
• Strong software design, domain modelling and API design.
• Experience delivering complex initiatives in Agile environments.
• Cloud, CI/CD and security-focused software design ownership.
• Experience using AI-assisted coding tools (e.g., Claude Code, Copilot).

What role will you play?

In this role you will be a hands-on senior engineer working on an AI-first risk platform that supports investment management across listed and unlisted assets. You will develop high-quality software, solve complex technical challenges, and help shape the technical direction of the platform. You will also contribute to solution design, support colleagues, and take ownership of quality, reliability, and continuous improvement.

Our platform is built AI-first - we use Claude Code as a core part of the development workflow, not as a productivity add-on. Engineers collaborate with AI agents to design, implement, test, and review code at a pace and quality that would otherwise require a much larger team. As the platform grows into new domains, AI fluency will be a defining capability for the engineers on this team.

What You Offer

• 5+ years’ experience in software engineering, with strong expertise in Python and related tools, including FastAPI, SQLAlchemy, Pydantic, and pytest.
• Strong software design skills, including domain modelling, API design, and applying practical design patterns to support maintainable systems.
• Experience delivering complex technology initiatives from start to finish in an agile environment while balancing scope, risk, quality, and timelines.
• Working knowledge of cloud platforms, continuous integration and continuous delivery practices, and security-focused software design, with ownership of software quality and production support.
• Experience using AI-assisted coding tools, such as Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, Cursor, or similar, with an interest in using them to improve the way software is developed.
