Job description

ASC is Australia’s submarine company. We built the Royal Australian Navy’s Collins Class submarines, sustain them, and are now delivering their Life of Type Extension to increase the boats’ service lives. We have also been selected by the Australian Government to sustain and jointly build the nation’s nuclear-powered submarines – the largest and most complex industrial undertaking in Australia’s history.

Our work is interesting and meaningful, contributing directly to Australia’s national security. We offer rewarding roles that provide the opportunity to grow your career, and the flexibility to balance life and work. A career at ASC is like no other, delivering a deeper purpose we can all be proud of.

About the Opportunity

This is a rare opportunity to play a key role in the pioneering SSN AUKUS Build Program, helping deliver one of Australia's most significant and complex Defence capabilities. As a Risk Advisor, you will work at the centre of a high-profile program, working collaboratively across a complex stakeholder environment to support informed decision-making through effective risk management.

Reporting to the Risk Manager, you will facilitate risk workshops, provide strategic risk advice, develop meaningful risk insights and contribute to the ongoing maturity of risk management practices across the program.

We welcome applications from risk professionals who bring a breadth of experience, from established Risk Advisors through to those operating at Senior Risk Advisor level.

Responsibilities
  • Lead and facilitate risk workshops, risk reviews and stakeholder discussions across the SSN AUKUS Build Program.
  • Develop, maintain and monitor risk registers, treatment plans and Key Risk Indicators (KRIs), providing insights into risk exposure and treatment effectiveness.
  • Prepare risk reporting, dashboards and governance papers for executive and leadership forums that provide clear risk insights, emerging themes and recommendations for leadership decision-making.
  • Provide trusted risk advice, challenge assumptions where appropriate and support risk-informed decision-making across complex programs and projects.
  • Support the implementation and continuous improvement of risk management frameworks, processes and tools.
  • Monitor emerging risks, opportunities and changes in risk exposure to provide meaningful insights to stakeholders.
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships across a complex stakeholder environment, fostering collaboration and trust to achieve shared outcomes.
  • Promote a positive risk culture through coaching, collaboration and stakeholder engagement.
About you

To be successful, you will have:

  • Demonstrated experience in risk management within complex project, engineering, infrastructure, Defence or major program environments.
  • Experience maintaining risk registers and associated risk data within risk management systems and tools, ensuring data integrity, effective governance and meaningful risk visibility for stakeholders.
  • Strong facilitation skills with experience leading risk workshops and engaging diverse stakeholder groups.
  • Experience preparing executive-level reporting, governance papers, dashboards and risk insights for senior leadership forums.
  • Sound knowledge of risk management principles, frameworks and standards, including ISO 31000 and their practical application within project and program environments.
  • Strong communication and influencing skills, with the ability to translate complex risk information into clear, actionable insights for decision-makers.
  • The ability to build credibility and foster collaborative relationships across internal and external stakeholders.
  • The ability to work effectively in a dynamic, fast-paced environment, managing competing priorities while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in Business, Commerce, Engineering, Project Management or a related discipline.
  • Eligibility to obtain and maintain an Australian Defence Security Clearance (NV1).
  • Experience working with Governance, Risk & Compliance (GRC) systems and Visio

If you're looking to make a meaningful contribution to a nation‑building Defence program while working alongside industry‑leading partners, we'd love to hear from you.

  • Experience supporting large-scale Defence, naval, shipbuilding or complex engineering programs.
  • Understanding of project controls, integrated project management and risk‑based contingency management.
  • Experience applying Quantitative Risk Analysis (QRA) techniques, including schedule and cost risk analysis, to inform contingency levels and support program decision‑making.

This role requires a current National Police Clearance, an Australian Defence Security Clearance and an ability to access protected US defence technology. Your eligibility for this role is dependent on you obtaining and maintaining such clearances and approvals.
