Kestrel Eight is seeking a senior RHEL and Satellite engineer for a national government agency, onsite in Canberra. The role focuses on maintaining a RHEL 7 environment across virtual datacentres, physical hosts, and VMware/OpenStack, with Satellite-driven patching and smart management.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years of enterprise RHEL operations, experience with Satellite and IdM, and comfort in a change-controlled, high‑critical environment. NV1 clearance is required or easily reinstated.

Responsibilities

• Create new RHEL standard operating environments and consolidate existing ones, integrating them with Satellite and Ansible.
• Recommend the schedule for RHEL z-releases and patches, then package and apply updates.
• Manage and upgrade the Satellite platform, including its Ansible integration.
• Migrate Linux hosts to supported RHEL environments.
• Run patch and release management for Red Hat Identity Management (IdM).
• Recommend ways to maintain currency and security of IdM; support upgrades and integration requirements.
• Carry out maintenance, system tuning and health checks.

A senior RHEL and Satellite engineer for a national government agency’s change-controlled, high-critical environment.

Kestrel Eight is looking for a senior RHEL and Satellite engineer to maintain a national government agency’s RHEL 7 environment for 12 months from 1 December 2026. The role is onsite in Canberra.

The Role

You will maintain a RHEL 7 environment that spans virtual datacentres, physical hosts, residual VMware and OpenStack, including Satellite-driven patching and Smart Management. The environment is change-controlled and high-critical.

What You Will Do

RHEL and Satellite

• Create new RHEL standard operating environments and consolidate existing ones, integrating them with Satellite and Ansible.
• Recommend the schedule for RHEL z-releases and patches, then package and apply the agreed updates.
• Manage and upgrade the Satellite platform, including its Ansible integration.
• Migrate Linux hosts that are not yet on RHEL 8 or 9 to supported RHEL standard operating environments.

Identity Management (IdM)

• Run patch and release management for Red Hat Identity Management.
• Recommend ways to maintain and improve the currency and security of IdM.
• Support IdM upgrades and integration requirements.
• Carry out maintenance, system tuning and health checks.
