About the opportunity

We seek to appoint a Postdoctoral Research Associate / Research Fellow in Multi-Omics Data Science to work in the Snow Vision Accelerator at the University of Sydney, with a strong focus towards therapeutic discovery.

The Snow Vision Accelerator is an ambitious research and drug development initiative focused on transforming the treatment of glaucoma by uncovering the molecular mechanisms through which aging and associated metabolic dysfunction increase the vulnerability of the optic nerve to injury and neurodegeneration. The program integrates cutting‑edge biology, data science, and translational drug discovery to identify, validate, and target age‑related pathways underlying glaucomatous damage, and to develop drugs and new therapies that boost optic nerve resilience and prevent vision loss.

We are seeking to appoint a Postdoctoral Research Associate / Research Fellow within the bioinformatics and pathway discovery platform to be at the forefront of establishing statistical and computational analytical capability for drug discovery‑based research using multi‑omics data analysis. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to a uniquely integrated research environment, where computational, experimental, clinical and translational expertise are closely aligned within the SVA program, enabling researchers to work side by side and drive discovery through to translation.

The successful applicant will also be part of the Sydney Precision Data Science Centre, the Charles Perkins Centre, and the School of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Sydney.

In this role, you will be required to:
  • contribute significantly towards the research effort of the team with increasing autonomy

  • lead research projects to develop and apply advanced data analysis and computational techniques for multi‑omics data analysis and drug discovery

  • collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to exchange ideas and leverage complementary expertise across statistics, data science, biology, and clinical and translational research

  • maintain clear and comprehensive documentation of methods, data analyses, and findings for future reference and knowledge sharing

  • contribute to, and assist in the joint supervision and training of research students

  • contribute to bioinformatics and research dissemination workshops where required

  • undertake administrative duties to support the management of the bioinformatics platform within the Snow Vision Accelerator.

About you

The University values courage and creativity; openness and engagement; inclusion and diversity; and respect and integrity. As such, we see the importance of recruiting talent aligned to these values and are looking for a Postdoctoral Research Associate / Research Fellow with the following selection criteria:

  • completion (or near completion) of a PhD in statistics, data science, computer science, bioinformatics, or a related discipline

  • research strengths in at least two of the following areas: statistical bioinformatics, computational bioinformatics, applied statistics, computer science, data science and computational biology.

  • strong computational skills

  • demonstrated ability to conduct research / scholarly activities with limited supervision

  • demonstrated ability to work co‑operatively and positively in a multidisciplinary research‑based team environment and to engage with people from diverse backgrounds

  • excellent interpersonal and both written and oral communication skills in English

Applicants who demonstrate the following desirable criteria will be highly regarded:
  • experience in analysing large‑scale omics datasets in R or python

  • strong general IT skills, including familiarity with Linux/Unix environments and HPC systems

  • experience in assisting with the supervision of students undertaking undergraduate or higher degree research projects

  • good organisational and administrative skills, with attention to detail

Pre‑employment checks

Your employment is conditional upon the completion of all role required pre‑employment or background checks in terms satisfactory to the University.
