Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions (DBCA) seeks a researcher to advance remote sensing and spatial analysis for forest health monitoring in Western Australia. The role involves planning field data collection and linking biodiversity with forest health outcomes, applying cutting-edge techniques to support ecosystem management.

Applicants should demonstrate expertise in GIS, Python or R, and handling complex spatial datasets such as LiDAR, drone imagery, and satellite data.

Qualifications

Knowledge of remote sensing and spatial analysis for biodiversity conservation or natural resource management.
Skills in analysis, modelling, and statistics using GIS software and Python or R.
Experience with complex spatial datasets like LiDAR, optical and radar satellite imagery, drone imagery.
Strong report and scientific writing skills.

Responsibilities

Implement and extend research into remote sensing and spatial analysis for the Forest Health Monitoring Program.
Plan and gather field data and develop linkages to biodiversity and forest health aspects.
Develop research techniques using remote sensing to inform forest ecosystem management.
