Job summary

The Department of Jobs, Skills, Industry and Regions in Melbourne invites applications for the Project Officer, Aboriginal Programs to support the Victorian Aboriginal Sporting Partnership Strategy and coordinate projects with Aboriginal communities.

The role will assist development, management and delivery of key projects, prepare minutes and reports, and build relationships with internal and external stakeholders to advance First Peoples opportunities in line with self-determination principles.

Qualifications

• First Nations cultural contexts understanding and respectful engagement with Aboriginal community members.
• Clear, concise written communication in briefs, letters, emails and reports.
• Developed project plans and workplans with defined objectives and steps.
• Ability to build and maintain effective relationships across business areas and organisations.

Responsibilities

• Support the implementation of the Victorian Aboriginal Sporting Partnership (VASP) Strategy, including delivery of key initiatives, monitoring and reporting, and providing secretariat support to the VASP governance group.
• Undertake a range of administrative and logistical tasks associated with the development, management, and administration of key projects to ensure the achievement of program outcomes and contract requirements for the Aboriginal Programs Team and Participation and Sector Development more broadly.
• Develop and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders (including First Peoples organisations and community) to support development opportunities and pathways for First Peoples, through a professional and collaborative approach that is culturally safe and aligned to self-determination principles.
• Prepare minutes, briefings, reports and related documents incorporating clear, concise and well-informed options and recommendations across the Aboriginal Programs Team and Participation and Sector Development Unit.
