Job summary

Mildura Base Public Hospital is seeking Registered Psychiatric Nurses to join our Inpatient Mental Health Service. You will deliver recovery-focused care, perform mental health assessments, contribute to care planning, and work within a multidisciplinary team to support patients through their recovery journey.

The role involves a range of shifts including weekdays, evenings, nights, weekends and public holidays, in a supportive clinical environment committed to excellence in mental health care.

Qualifications

• Registered Psychiatric Nurse with current AHPRA registration.
• Experience in direct clinical care for people with mental illness.
• Knowledge and application of Recovery-based principles.
• Strong verbal and written communication; proficient with MS Excel/Word and client management systems.
• Working knowledge of the Mental Health Act and regulatory frameworks.

Responsibilities

• Conduct mental health assessments and contribute to care planning.
• Deliver therapeutic interventions and support patients in recovery.
• Manage clinical risk and ensure safe, person-centred inpatient care.

About the Role

As a Registered Psychiatric Nurse within our Inpatient Mental Health Service, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality, recovery-oriented care to patients experiencing acute and ongoing mental health conditions. Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, you will undertake mental health assessments, contribute to care planning, provide therapeutic interventions, manage clinical risk and support patients throughout their recovery journey. You will collaborate closely with psychiatrists, allied health professionals, families and carers to ensure safe, person-centred care within a therapeutic inpatient environment. Successful candidates will be expected to work a range of shifts, including weekdays, evenings, nights, weekends and public holidays.

Essential

• Current AHPRA registration as a Registered Psychiatric Nurse (or Registered Nurse with mental health endorsement/experience)
• Demonstrated experience, skill and/or knowledge in the provision of direct clinical care to people who have experienced mental illness
• Demonstrated knowledge and application of Recovery-based principles
• Highly developed verbal and written communication skills, including use of Excel, Word and client management systems
• Working knowledge of the relevant Mental Health Act and associated regulatory frameworks

Desirable:

• Experience managing complex presentations, including behavioural disturbance, suicidality and co-occurring conditions.
• Postgraduate qualification in Mental Health Nursing or related field.
• Experience in inpatient psychiatric units, acute mental health services or psychiatric intensive care environments.
• Knowledge of Safewards, trauma-informed practice and recovery-focused models of care.
