The Role

As a Registered Nurse in the Spinal Unit at Prince of Wales Hospital, the role involves delivering high-quality, person-centred care in accordance with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia Standards of Practice. The nurse is responsible for coordinating and implementing nursing care, including comprehensive assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation, to support patients in achieving optimal health outcomes.

This includes maintaining accurate and timely clinical documentation, communicating effectively with patients, carers, and the multidisciplinary team, and delegating and supervising care provided by Enrolled Nurses and Assistants in Nursing within their scope of practice. The role also encompasses participation in quality improvement initiatives, clinical supervision, and ongoing professional development, while adhering to NSW Health and SESLHD policies, demonstrating CORE values, and promoting a culture of wellbeing and exceptional care.

Where You'll be Working

Prince of Wales Hospital and Community Health Service is a Level 6 Tertiary Referral Hospital with an inpatient bed base of 370. Each year we care for more than 70,000 patients in our Emergency Department and have around 50,000 admissions to the inpatient units. POWH offers an outpatient service and rural outreach service and provides more than 900,000 occasions of non-admitted patient care each year, including innovative virtual models of care. We have transitioned the majority of inpatient units and wards to the Acute Services Building (ASB) including a state of the art Emergency Department and Intensive Care Unit. POWH provides an exceptional staff experience and enhanced patient and family outcomes as a result of the provision of person-centred care.

Selection Criteria
  • Registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) as a Registered Nurse/ Midwife.
  • Demonstrated recent clinical experience as a Registered Nurse that applies to a spinal clinical setting
  • Demonstrated high level written and verbal communication skills, interpersonal skills and be able to identify key messages, issues and concerns when communicating with others.
  • Ability to work as part of an interdisciplinary team and apply professional and ethical boundaries when dealing with complex situations.
  • Current computer skills and proven ability to use health information systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to advocate for and implement person-centred practice.
  • Demonstrated application of evidence-based practice and critical thinking to patient care.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively prioritise and organise own workload.
