Job summary

Ramsay Surgical Centre in Cairns, Queensland, is seeking a skilled Registered Nurse – Scrub Scout to provide high‑quality perioperative nursing care in a busy theatre environment. You will scrub and scout during procedures, prepare equipment, maintain a sterile field and support the surgical team to ensure patient safety and optimal outcomes.

You will also participate in surgical counts, document care, and contribute to infection prevention initiatives.

Qualifications

• Registered Nurse with surgical nursing experience.
• Knowledge of aseptic technique and infection prevention.
• Ability to collaborate with surgeons, anaesthetists and theatre staff.

Responsibilities

• Provide safe nursing care throughout the perioperative journey.
• Undertake scrub and scout duties during surgical procedures.
• Prepare and check theatre equipment, instruments and supplies before procedures.
• Maintain a sterile field and adhere to aseptic technique and infection prevention standards.
• Assist the surgical team by anticipating procedural requirements and ensuring instruments/equipment are available.
• Participate in surgical counts and follow patient safety protocols.
• Monitor and maintain safe handling of instruments and equipment.

• Maintain accurate clinical documentation in line with hospital policies.

Job description

We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Registered Nurse – Scrub Scout to join the team at Ramsay Surgical Centre, Cairns, Queensland, on a permanent full-time basis.

In this role, you'll play an essential part in supporting surgical procedures by providing safe, high-quality perioperative nursing care. Working closely with surgeons, anaesthetists and the wider theatre team, you'll help ensure procedures run smoothly while maintaining a strong focus on patient safety, infection prevention and positive patient outcomes.

About You

You are a motivated and patient-focused Registered Nurse with surgical nursing experience who thrives in a team environment. You'll bring sound clinical judgement, strong attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining high standards of care throughout the surgical journey.

You Will Also Bring

• Current registration as a Registered Nurse with AHPRA.
• Previous experience in a perioperative or operating theatre environment, particularly scrub/scout nursing.
• Sound knowledge of aseptic technique, infection prevention and surgical safety practices.
• Strong clinical assessment, organisational and time management skills.
• Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
• Ability to anticipate surgical team requirements and respond effectively in a dynamic environment.
• Commitment to patient-centred care, safety and professional standards.
• Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
• Flexibility and a proactive approach to ongoing learning and professional development.

Remuneration

On offer is a base hourly rate of $43.25–$58.45 + superannuation, based on experience level and applicable classification, exclusive of penalties and allowances (Queensland Registered Nurse Level 1, Grades 1–8).
