Job summary

South Western Sydney Local Health District is seeking a Registered Midwife to join the Women and Children’s health team at Fairfield Hospital on a permanent part-time basis (20 hours per week). You will provide evidence-based midwifery care, support education, and collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to improve outcomes.

Applicants must hold current AHPRA registration, demonstrate compassionate care, and engage with patients and families while contributing to risk management and quality

Qualifications

  • Current Authority to Practice as a Registered Midwife with AHPRA.
  • Recent experience as a Registered Midwife in a Women and Children’s health setting.
  • Ability to provide safe, compassionate, culturally responsive care.
  • Effective communication with patients, families, and the multidisciplinary team.
  • Commitment to teamwork, initiative, and risk management.

Responsibilities

  • Provide evidence-based midwifery care for women during labour, birth, and postpartum.
  • Collaborate with obstetric, neonatal, and allied health teams.
  • Support education and care planning to improve outcomes.
  • Contribute to risk management, safety, and continuous quality improvement.
  • Engage with Aboriginal and culturally diverse patients with respect.

Selection Criteria

  • Do you have current Authority to Practice as a Registered Midwife with Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA)? Please attach a copy of your AHPRA registration in your application.
  • Demonstrated recent experience as a Registered Midwife in an environment appropriate to the relevant specialty.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide safe compassionate quality care that is culturally responsive.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate and engage with patients/consumers, families, carers and the multidisciplinary health care team to identify and ensure responsiveness of care needs.
  • Demonstrated capacity to interact with others in a personable and professional manner and personally resolve conflicts when they arise.
  • Demonstrated evidence of the use of critical thinking as it relates to the delivery of evidenced based midwifery care.
  • Demonstrated understanding and participation in risk management, work health and safety and quality improvement in the workplace.
