Job summary

GTE in Melbourne seeks an Industrial Refrigeration Mechanic with hands-on experience in ammonia and Freon refrigeration systems to maintain chillers, freezers and HVAC equipment. The role focuses on keeping refrigeration processes running smoothly across the plant.

The successful candidate will perform preventative maintenance, installations and repairs, coordinating with electricians and plumbers to ensure safety and OSHA compliance.

Qualifications

• 5+ years as a Fully Qualified Refrigeration specialist in industrial Ammonia and Freon gas systems.
• Certifications and qualifications as a refrigeration mechanic.
• Good organisational skills and ability to schedule work.
• Problem solving and troubleshooting abilities.
• Ability to read diagrams and understand electrical wiring and piping.
• Full working rights.

Responsibilities

• Daily maintenance of all refrigeration and water chiller systems including cleaning of filters and strainers.
• Complete daily checklists of water chillers, evaporators, pumps, and condensers.
• Scheduling and performing preventative maintenance.
• Assist with and, on occasion, manage installation and modification of refrigeration systems.
• Install, maintain, and repair heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems.
• Liaise with on-site Electrician to replace motors, pumps, switches, safety controls, solenoids, and fuses in all refrigeration areas.
• Liaise with on-site Electrician to organise fixes for compressors and fans as required.
• Operate in compliance with OHS to uphold site safety and regulations.
• Perform monthly plant safety inspections and ensure OSHA standards.
• Work with on-site Electrician and Plumber to assemble, install or repair wiring, electrical and electronic components, pipe systems, plumbing, machinery, and equipment as required.
• Perform swaging, flaring, and brazing of refrigerant tubing to make necessary repairs to refrigeration and HVAC equipment.
• Calibration of temperature gauges.
• The successful applicant will have an assistant to help with day-to-day tasks.

Job description

Our client operating in the Northern suburbs of Melbourne is a large meat processing facility who are seeking to appoint an Industrial Refrigeration Mechanic on a permanent basis with Freon and Ammonia refrigeration system experience. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining the smooth operation of all refrigeration including Chillers, freezers and factory air -conditioning and will be responsible for organising and performing maintenance of all refrigeration, freezer and air-conditioning systems.

This is a hands-on position.

Key Responsibilities

Responsible for the daily maintenance of all refrigeration and water chiller systems including cleaning of filters and strainers

Complete daily checklists of water chillers, evaporators, pumps, and condensers to ensure proper running order.

Scheduling and performing preventative maintenance

Assist with and, on occasion, manage installation and modification of refrigeration systems.

Install, maintain, and repair heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems.

Liaise with on- site Electrician to replace motors, pumps, switches, safety controls, solenoids, and fuses in all refrigeration areas.

Liaise with on -site Electrician to organise to fix or replace compressors, fans and associated equipment as required

Problem solving abilities to diagnose faults and implement effective troubleshooting techniques.

Proficiency in reading diagrams understanding electrical wiring and piping systems.

Experience using various hand and power tools.
