Job summary

Birmingham Community Healthcare NHS foundation Trust is seeking a Band 8a Senior Practitioner Psychologist to perform specialist psychological assessments in children, integrating data from tests, interviews and observations.

You will formulate and implement treatment plans based on evidence-based frameworks and deliver a range of interventions for children, carers and families across teams, applying advanced knowledge of SEND processes and education agendas. This role is based in Birmingham, UK.

Responsibilities

• To provide specialist psychological assessment of children based upon the appropriate use, interpretation and integration of complex psychological data from multiple sources including psychological and neuropsychological assessments, self-reported measures, rating scales, direct and indirect structured observations and interviews with children, family members and others involved in the child’s care.
• To formulate and implement plans for the formal psychological treatment and/or management of a child’s psychological problems based on an appropriate conceptual framework and across the full range of care settings.
• To be responsible for implementing a range of psychological interventions for children, carers, families and groups within and across teams, refining formulations and drawing on various explanatory models.
• To use highly developed specialist knowledge of procedures including SEND processes and education agendas.

Job description

Band 8a Senior Practitioner Psychologist

1. To provide specialist psychological assessment of children based upon theappropriate use, interpretation and integration of complex psychological datafrom a variety of sources including psychological and neuropsychologicalassessment, self-reported measures, rating scales, direct and indirectstructured observations and semi-structured interviews with children, familymembers and others involved in the childs care.
2. To formulate and implement plans for the formal psychological treatment and/ormanagement of a childs psychological problems. This is to be based upon anappropriate conceptual framework of the clients problems, and employingmethods of proven efficiency, across the full range of care settings.
3. To be responsible for implementing a range of psychological interventions forchildren, carers, families and groups within and across teams. This wouldinvolve adjusting and refining psychological formulations and drawing upondifferent explanatory models and maintaining a number of provisionalhypotheses.
4. To use highly developed specialist knowledge of a range of work proceduresand practices including that of SEND processes and education agenda. See attached Job description and person specification attached.
