Job summary

School District 27J is seeking a Paraprofessional to provide support and supervision for students with disabilities in special education and general education classes. Under the direction of a Behavior Consultant, you will modify instructional tools and environments and collect data.

The position requires a high school diploma, at least 3 years working with school-aged students, and a Registered Behavior Technician certificate.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent. Must be able to obtain Registered Behavior Technician certificate (RBT).
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as Behavior Plans, IEPs, staff and student handbooks.
• Competent in basic academic skills (reading, math, and writing) to support students.
• Experience with PowerPoint, Microsoft, and other administrative tasks.
• Ability to collect data, write routine reports and simple correspondences.
• Ability to present information and respond to questions from teachers and providers.
• Ability to solve practical problems with limited standardization.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work with disabled students requiring various personal care needs.
• Able to work independently, yet follow directions.
• Bilingual (English/Spanish) skills helpful.
• Must regularly lift 10–100 pounds and occasionally more than 100 pounds.
• Must pass post-offer/pre-employment physical and background checks.

Responsibilities

• Assist with implementing and monitoring behavioral programming in 1:1 or small group settings under supervision.
• Collect data on behavior programming and report to Behavior Consultant.
• Direct and assist with paraprofessional trainings and instruction and document outcomes.
• Supervise and support students on campus, including lunchroom, playground, bus transitions.
• Modify/adapt instructional materials and environments to support participation.
• Assist with data collection for IEP goals and input data into systems under supervision.
• De-escalate students using CPI measures as appropriate.
• Observe confidentiality and safeguard student information.
• Participate in team meetings and trainings as directed.
• Attend student staffings and parent meetings as requested.
