Job summary

The Australian Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry – Canberra ACT is seeking a Legal Officer to provide written advice and practical legal support to operational officers on complex issues across biosecurity, trade, food safety and exports.

You will distil key issues, undertake legal research, communicate clearly with clients and policymakers, and help develop and progress legislation while meeting tight timeframes.

Qualifications

• Degree in law with practical legal training completed.
• Eligible to hold an ACT legal practising certificate.
• Strong written and verbal communication, with ability to influence.

Responsibilities

• Prepare written legal advice for the Legal Division.
• Support operational officers on diverse regulatory matters.
• Assist with legislation development and dispute resolution.
