Job summary

Sydney Water is seeking a dedicated and experienced Legal Counsel - Property to join our Legal and Compliance team. You will advise on property transactions, compulsory acquisitions, land access, planning and infrastructure development, supporting the Head of Legal and Compliance and the Senior Legal Counsel Manager in delivering practical, high‑quality legal guidance.

Qualifications

Tertiary qualification in law.
NSW practising certificate is essential.
3–6 years post-admission experience as a property lawyer, ideally in private practice and in-house.

Responsibilities

Provide timely and high-quality legal advice across all areas of law relevant to Sydney Water, with a focus on property law.
Draft, review, and negotiate leases, licences, compulsory acquisitions, disposals, easements and property-related agreements.
Advise on legislative compliance under relevant acts (e.g., Sydney Water Act 1994, Land Acquisition Act).
Support operational teams with property-related legal enquiries.
Manage and oversee litigation matters with external advisers.
Build relationships with internal stakeholders and external partners for effective service delivery.
Contribute to knowledge management within the Legal and Compliance team.
