Job summary

Thales Australia seeks a Project Procurement Manager to align procurement activities with RMPE goals. You will coordinate with Senior Management, Supply Chain, and Project Managers to optimise outcomes for the ship repair program.

You will build strong stakeholder relationships, drive supplier performance, and implement innovative procurement approaches across the program lifecycle, contributing to mission-critical outcomes.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years in procurement or strategic sourcing in a high-tech environment.
  • Experience in a large international matrix organisation.
  • Experience managing project procurement activities.
  • Strong relationships with internal stakeholders and influencing decisions.
  • Experience negotiating contract spends up to $20M.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with IT productivity tools (MS Office, Intelex, Planner, Jira).
  • Strong supply chain experience and risk management.

Responsibilities

  • Interface between internal stakeholders, customers and procurement teams for RMPE.
  • Manage suppliers for RMPE with regular reviews and continuous improvement.
  • Propose innovative supply chain approaches across life-cycle of the programme.
  • Coordinate subcontract administration via Category Buyers and Subcontracts Managers.
  • Maintain a steady drumbeat to drive procurement progress.
  • Report supplier performance and manage contract changes or new procurements.
  • Implement procurement strategies and supplier engagement plans to meet business needs.

Our Team

The Thales Australia AWS business offers ship repair, maintenance and asset management / in-service support capabilities for commercial and naval ships in Australia. The business also offers the provision of docking, reticulated services and facility maintenance within Garden Island.

Your role

The role of the Project Procurement Manager (PPM) is to coordinate activities between business and procurement teams to support the financial and strategic goals of the Regional Maintenance Program East (RMPE) ship repair services. In this role, the PPM will act as the main focal point to ensure the coordination of procurement activities with Senior Management, Supply Chain, and Project Managers as well as transactional procurement in order to achieve the best overall outcome for the program.

  • Acting as the primary interface between internal stakeholders, customers and procurement teams for the Regional Maintenance Program East (RMPE). To build strong, on-the-ground relationships with the business to facilitate problem-solving and to ensure timely procurement actions
  • Supporting in the management of the suppliers relevant to RMPE, coordinating regular reviews, driving continuous improvement initiatives and addressing any supplier performance issues in a proactive manner
  • Optimising the procurement solution and proposing innovative supply chain approaches, considering the entire life-cycle aspect of the programme
  • Coordinating the subcontracts administration including appropriate flow down of head contract clauses and general subcontract administration, via Category Buyers and Subcontracts Managers
  • Maintaining a steady drumbeat to drive procurement progress and keep momentum
  • Supporting the business in reporting and reviewing supplier performance issues to ensure appropriate contract change or new procurement activities are undertaken to address and resolve
  • Effectively implementing procurement strategies and supplier engagement plans that support business requirements and enhance supply chain performance
Your Experience
  • Ideally have 10+ Years’ experience in procurement or strategic sourcing within a high-tech environment
  • Experience working within a large international matrix organisation and complex project environment
  • Experience of managing project procurement activities
  • Ability to develop strong relationships with internal stakeholders and influence decisions
  • Experience in negotiating and managing contract spends of up to $20M
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Strong skill base in IT productivity tools (MS Office, Intelex, Microsoft Planner, Jira etc.)
  • Strong Supply Chain experience
  • Make/Buy and Risk Management skills
  • Track record of bringing value and ability to capture innovation
Desirable Experience
  • Engineering / Technical degree, Project Management qualifications or equivalent
  • Tertiary qualifications in Business, Management or Logistics
  • Background in Electronics, Mechanical Trade/Technical qualifications
