Job summary

UNSW is seeking a Project Officer (Community Engagement) to address barriers for underrepresented cohorts in engineering. The role is identified for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander applicants and involves collaboration with multiple program teams to drive engagement, pathways and success in the Faculty of Engineering.

Qualifications

• Australian Working Rights or Australian Citizenship is required.
• This is an identified Indigenous position; confirmation of Indigenous status will be required.
• Knowledge of NSW School curricula (NSW Education Standards Authority) and links to STEM subjects.
• Indigenous engagement experience is highly desirable.
• Relevant tertiary qualification with subsequent experience or equivalent competence.

Responsibilities

• Support the delivery of community engagement initiatives targeting underrepresented cohorts (Indigenous, women, etc.).
• Assist in developing project plans, schedules and planned initiatives.
• Monitor, track and report project deliverables against plans and budgets.
• Provide administrative support to project teams and stakeholders.
• Coordinate workshops, meetings and status reporting; manage actions and follow-ups.
• Develop communications with internal and external stakeholders (Nura Gili, UNSW Makerbus, Future Students, etc.).
• Support program implementation under guidance from Program Managers and Senior Officer.

• Remuneration Level 6: $108,021 - $115,233 + 17% Superannuation

Why This Role Matters

The Project Officer (Community Engagement) addresses barriers to access and participation experienced by underrepresented cohorts, taking an intersectional approach to supporting engagement, pathways and success in UNSW Engineering. This role will work in collaboration with the Program Manager (Student Gender Equity) who focuses on women, non-binary and gender diverse students, the Community Engagement Coordinator, and the Senior Program Officer (Indigenous Engagement), as well as Future Student Recruitment and other areas of the Faculty of Engineering. As an Identified role, the role will also include the engagement in meaningful partnerships with Indigenous communities.

The role is an identified Indigenous position. Accountabilities

• Support the delivery of community engagement initiatives and activities targeting cohorts currently underrepresented in the engineering sector, including Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander People; women, non-binary and gender diverse people; students from a low SES background, and those located in remote/rural areas.
• Support the development of project plans and schedules and participate in planning processes for key initiatives and activities including, but not limited to, those associated with engineering Indigenous engagement, student gender equity programming, widening participation programming and UNSW Makerbus activities.
• Monitor, track and report on the status of project deliverables to ensure time, cost and quality metrics are in line with approved project plans for assigned projects.
• Provide practical and proactive project support and administrative services to project teams and stakeholders.
• Coordinate project administration including coordination of workshops and meetings, manage assigned actions and follow-ups and project status reporting.
• Develop and manage effective communications with key stakeholders, both internal and external to the project, including Nura Gili: Centre for Indigenous Programs, UNSW Makerbus, Future Students, Student Equity, high schools & primary schools, Faculty partners, and student societies.
• Support program implementation under the direction of the Program Manager (Student Equity), with guidance from the Program Manager (Student Gender Equity), Senior Program Officer (Indigenous Engagement) and Community Engagement Coordinator.

• Knowledge of NSW School curricula, specifically NESA (NSW Education Standards Authority) and links to STEM subjects.
• Knowledge and experience in Indigenous engagement is highly desirable.
• Relevant tertiary qualification with subsequent relevant experience or equivalent competence gained through any combination of education, training and experience.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a high level of attention to detail for deliverables produced.
• Sound stakeholder management skills, with the ability to liaise effectively with a range of stakeholders.
• Excellent time management skills, with a demonstrated ability to respond to changing priorities, manage multiple tasks and meet competing deadlines by using judgement and initiative.
• Project experience, with an understanding of the project life cycle and development of project plans, objectives and documentation.
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and productively within a team, but also to take initiative and work independently while managing competing demands.
