Job description

Salary: $180,000 per annum + Project Completion Bonus

Benefits: Accommodation Provided + Company Vehicle or Vehicle Allowance

Project Manager
Location: Northern NSW

Salary: $180,000 per annum + Project Completion Bonus

Benefits: Accommodation Provided + Company Vehicle or Vehicle Allowance

The Opportunity

Our client is a well-established specialist civil contractor delivering complex ground engineering and stabilisation projects throughout Northern New South Wales and Far North Queensland. Their expertise includes soil nailing, landslip remediation, slope stabilisation, retaining structures and other technically challenging geotechnical works, partnering with many of Australia's leading Tier 1 and Tier 2 contractors.

Due to the retirement of the current Project Manager, an opportunity now exists for either an experienced Project Manager or a capable Senior Project Engineer looking to step into their first Project Management role.

The successful candidate will take over the delivery of a significant project with approximately seven to eight months remaining. This project is strategically important to the business and provides an excellent opportunity to demonstrate your capability on a high-profile civil infrastructure project.

An Honest Conversation

This project has approximately seven to eight months remaining. The intention is for the role to continue beyond that, but like any project-based contractor, ongoing employment depends on securing future work. If suitable projects are won, the role is expected to continue. If not, it may conclude with the successful completion of this project.

In return, you'll lead a significant Joint Venture project, gain valuable experience on the subcontractor side of the industry and further strengthen your project management and commercial capability.

The Role

Reporting directly to the Company Director, you will assume responsibility for the successful delivery of a major geotechnical project from both an operational and commercial perspective and work closely with the Joint Venture partners, client representatives, site teams and subcontractors to ensure the project is delivered safely, efficiently, on programme and within budget.

This is a hands‑on leadership role requiring someone who is equally comfortable on site, in planning meetings and managing the commercial aspects of project delivery.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the successful delivery of a major Joint Venture project.
  • Develop, maintain and submit accurate project programmes using Microsoft Project, ensuring contractual milestones are achieved.
  • Build strong working relationships with Joint Venture partners, clients and key stakeholders.
  • Coordinate project resources to achieve programme, safety, quality and commercial objectives.
  • Monitor project budgets, forecasting, costs and productivity.
  • Prepare progress claims, reports and contractual documentation.
  • Identify project risks and develop practical mitigation strategies.
  • Manage subcontractors and supplier performance.
  • Ensure compliance with contractual, safety, environmental and quality requirements.
  • Drive successful project completion and handover.
About You

Ideally you will have:

  • Degree qualifications in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Experience delivering civil infrastructure, geotechnical, stabilisation or earthworks projects.
  • Strong planning and programming capability using Microsoft Project.
  • Sound commercial acumen with experience managing project costs, forecasting and contractual obligations.
  • The ability to confidently engage with Joint Venture partners and client representatives.
  • Excellent leadership, communication and organisational skills.
  • Advanced proficiency across the Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Outlook and Microsoft Project.
  • A practical, solutions‑focused approach with the ability to make sound decisions under pressure.
What's on Offer
  • $180,000 annual salary.
  • Project Completion Bonus.
  • Accommodation provided.
  • Company vehicle or vehicle allowance.
  • Opportunity to lead a significant Joint Venture project.
  • Exposure to specialist geotechnical and slope stabilisation works.
  • Direct reporting relationship with the Company Director.

The opportunity to continue with the business should future project workload support ongoing employment.

This role would suit someone looking to broaden their experience beyond traditional principal contractor roles and gain valuable exposure to the specialist subcontracting sector while taking ownership of a technically challenging and commercially significant project.
