We help enable the safe and efficient transit of freight and passenger trains across the country, managing more than 9,600km of rail track across five states and the lands of more than 50 First Nations.

About the Team

When you join the Infrastructure Projects team, you’ll be part of delivering Australia’s future rail network. From critical construction projects to our $2.8 billion Network Investment Program with the Australian Government, the team delivers nationally significant projects that strengthen supply chains and support the safe, reliable movement of freight across the country.

About the Opportunity

Are you an engineer with experience in railway signalling looking to take the next step in your career? Join ARTC's Infrastructure Projects team and play an important role in delivering rail infrastructure projects across NSW.

We are seeking a Project Engineer – Signals to provide engineering and project delivery support across a range of capital infrastructure projects, with a strong focus on railway signalling and communications.

Working closely with Project Managers, technical specialists, contractors and key stakeholders, you will contribute to the safe and successful delivery of projects from initial planning and design through to construction, commissioning and handover.

This is a great opportunity to build on your technical expertise, broaden your project delivery experience and contribute to infrastructure that supports Australia's rail network.

Travel Requirements

This role will require semi-regular travel based on business needs, which may occasionally include weekend travel. Flexibility and a willingness to travel are essential.

About the Role

In this role, you will:

  • Provide engineering and project management support throughout the project lifecycle, including feasibility, design, procurement, construction, commissioning and handover.
  • Support the delivery of multidisciplinary rail infrastructure projects, with a particular focus on signalling and communications systems.
  • Monitor project progress, including costs, schedules, quality and safety performance, and provide regular updates to Project Managers.
  • Work collaboratively with design consultants, construction contractors and internal teams to support the delivery of project outcomes.
  • Coordinate project interfaces with rail operations, corridor managers, utility providers, local councils and other external stakeholders.
  • Identify and assist in resolving technical and project delivery challenges to minimise risks and delays.
  • Promote a strong safety culture, ensuring projects are delivered in accordance with relevant rail safety, environmental and regulatory requirements.
What Do We Want From You?

We are looking for a proactive and organised engineer who enjoys working collaboratively, solving technical challenges and contributing to the successful delivery of infrastructure projects.

  • Experience in engineering maintenance, construction or project management within a railway signalling environment.
  • A sound understanding of railway signalling systems and their application within a rail infrastructure environment.
  • Strong organisational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills, with the confidence to engage with contractors, technical specialists and stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Microsoft Project.
  • Eligibility for membership of Engineers Australia and a current Class C driver's licence.
It would also be great if you have:
  • Experience working on greenfield or brownfield rail construction projects.
  • Experience supporting the delivery and administration of capital works projects.
  • Knowledge of railway systems and standards across signalling, track and civil disciplines.
  • Relevant signalling qualifications, such as a Certificate IV in Electrical Rail Signalling or an ARTC Signals Statement of Competency.
