Job summary

John Holland is seeking an experienced Project Engineer – Low Voltage Systems to support planning, coordination, governance, delivery and commissioning of LV electrical systems on the B2N rail upgrade in Queensland. You will work with stakeholders to ensure safe, compliant and efficient project delivery across power, lighting and communications infrastructure.

The role focuses on LV design management, technical assurance, site support, testing and handover, with emphasis on safety and adherence

Qualifications

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering with ability to manage LV design, construction and commissioning.
  • Experience with LV power, lighting and station electrical systems.
  • Strong knowledge of safety, standards and engineering assurance.
  • Experience handling scope, cost, schedule and risks, plus contractor oversight.
  • Excellent stakeholder communication and collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver LV electrical work packages from design through commissioning and handover.
  • Coordinate LV designs and ensure technical integration and change control.
  • Provide technical assurance and ensure compliance with standards and legislation.
  • Support site construction with inspections, issue resolution and QA.
  • Coordinate testing, commissioning and asset handover activities.
  • Promote safety culture and manage project risks.
  • Maintain relationships with stakeholders and provide clear technical reporting.

About the Project

John Holland is delivering the Beerburrum to Nambour Rail Upgrade (B2N) on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast. This major rail infrastructure program is designed to increase capacity, improve reliability and support the region’s long‑term growth.

This complex, multi‑disciplinary project includes significant signalling, rail systems and interface works delivered in a live rail environment, requiring close collaboration with Queensland Rail, designers, certifiers and delivery partners.

Based at Beerburrum project site, this project offers exposure to a large‑scale rail upgrade and the opportunity to contribute to a high‑impact transport solution while developing your career within a Tier 1 environment

About the Role

We are currently looking for an experienced Project Engineer – Low Voltage Systems to join the B2N team. The role plays a key role in supporting the planning, coordination, technical governance, delivery, and commissioning of Low Voltage (LV) electrical systems across rail infrastructure projects. The position helps ensure LV works are delivered safely, efficiently, and in line with project objectives, Queensland Rail standards, relevant legislation, and industry best practice.

You will be expected to partner with key project stakeholders across the site and wider business, the Project Engineer delivers LV electrical systems including power, lighting, and communications infrastructure, ensuring safe, compliant, and efficient project delivery.

Key Responsibilities
  • Project Delivery, Deliver LV electrical work packages from design through construction, commissioning, and handover while managing scope, cost, schedule, and risk.
  • Design Management, Coordinate and manage LV designs, ensuring technical integration, engineering assurance, and effective change management.
  • Technical Assurance, provide technical oversight and ensure compliance with Queensland Rail standards, Australian Standards, and relevant legislation.
  • Construction Support, Support construction activities through stakeholder coordination, quality oversight, site inspections, and resolution of technical issues.
  • Testing & Commissioning, Coordinate testing, commissioning, and asset handover activities to ensure operational readiness and documentation compliance.
  • Safety & Risk Management, promote a strong safety culture while managing project risks and ensuring compliance with safety, environmental, and quality requirements.
  • Stakeholder Management, Build and maintain effective relationships with project stakeholders, providing clear communication and technical reporting to support project delivery.
Requirements for the role
  • Degree qualified in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent).
  • Ability to manage design, construction, and commissioning activities.
  • Knowledge of LV power, lighting, and station electrical systems.
  • Understanding of electrical standards, safety, and engineering assurance.
  • Experience managing scope, cost, schedule, risk, and contractors.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
  • Experience in rail, transport, or brownfield environments.
  • Commitment to safety, quality, and project delivery.
