Job summary

Atom Resources seeks a proactive Project Engineer / Senior Project Engineer for a key site on the NSW Central Coast. You will report to the Project Manager, collaborate with the Site Manager and drive the construction schedule, QA/ITPs, and on-site delivery.

You will lead short-term programming, coordinate design with consultants and subcontractors, and mentor graduate engineers while upholding high standards of safety and quality. This role offers a dynamic, pipeline-driven environment.

Qualifications

• Experience as Project Engineer or Senior Project Engineer on commercial or residential builds.
• Main contractor experience required.
• Proven ability in short-term programming, site coordination and design management.

Responsibilities

• Take full ownership of trade programming, short-term lookahead schedules and variation tracking.
• Drive design resolution and trade package delivery between consultants, site teams and subcontractors.
• Implement QA standards, ITPs, and compliance documentation across all trades.
• Support on-site commercial and operational decisions and assist the PM as needed.
• Mentor site cadets and graduate engineers on technical matters.
• Maintain high subcontractor performance and collaborative relationships.

About the Business

Our client is a well-established and expanding building contractor with a strong portfolio of high-end commercial and residential developments across NSW.

About the Role

We are seeking a proactive and driven Project Engineer or Senior Project Engineer to join the project leadership team on a key site on the NSW Central Coast.

Reporting directly to the Project Manager and collaborating closely with the Site Manager, you will act as the PM’s right-hand operator on site. You will play a pivotal role in driving the construction schedule, overseeing daily site delivery, leading Quality Assurance (QA/ITPs), and mentoring junior engineering staff.

Key Responsibilities

• Programming & Site Delivery: Take full ownership of trade programming, short-term lookahead schedules, delivery logistics, and variation tracking.
• Design & Technical Coordination: Drive design resolution and trade package delivery between consultants, site teams, and subcontractors.
• Quality Assurance (QA & ITPs): Implement and enforce strict QA standards, Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), and compliance documentation across all trades.
• Leadership & PM Support: Support high-level commercial and operational decisions on site, stepping up to assist the PM as needed.
• Mentorship: Provide guidance, technical support, and direction to site-based cadets and graduate engineers.
• Subcontractor Management: Maintain high standards of performance and program compliance while maintaining strong, collaborative working relationships.

Selection Criteria & Experience

• Experience: Proven track record as a Project Engineer or Senior Project Engineer on commercial or residential building construction projects.
• Background: Main contractor experience is a requirement.
• Technical Proficiency: Demonstrated expertise in short-term programming, site coordination, and design management.
• Attributes: Decisive self-starter with excellent communication skills, high personal accountability, and the drive to push site progress independently.
• Qualifications: Tertiary qualification in Construction Management, Civil/Structural Engineering, or a related discipline.
