Job summary

Empowered Recruitment is helping a Cairns-based civil contractor fill a permanent Project Engineer position. You’ll own project delivery on locally based civil infrastructure, working with senior leaders to drive outcomes from planning through to completion.

Ideal candidates will have a recognised Civil Engineering degree, and experience delivering roadworks, drainage, earthworks or structures. You’ll coordinate teams, manage subcontractors and ensure on-time, on-budget delivery.

Qualifications

• Civil engineering degree from an accredited program.
• Experience in civil construction projects, especially road/infrastructure.
• Ability to lead planning, program delivery and QA documentation.

Responsibilities

• Coordinating day-to-day engineering and construction activities.
• Planning, programming and monitoring project progress.
• Managing subcontractors, suppliers and procurement.
• Cost tracking, forecasting and reporting.
• Preparing and maintaining QA documentation.
• Resolving technical and site-based issues.
• Supporting safety, environmental and quality requirements.
• Liaising with clients, consultants and project stakeholders.
• Ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time and within budget.

We’re partnering with an established civil contractor delivering a strong pipeline of road and infrastructure projects throughout the Cairns region.

This is an opportunity to take genuine ownership of your projects, work closely with experienced delivery leaders and continue building towards Senior Project Engineer or Project Manager responsibilities.

The role

Working closely with the Project Manager and site team, you’ll help manage projects from planning through to completion.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Coordinating day-to-day engineering and construction activities

• Managing subcontractors, suppliers and procurement
• Cost tracking, forecasting and reporting
• Preparing and maintaining QA documentation
• Resolving technical and site-based issues
• Supporting safety, environmental and quality requirements

• Helping ensure projects are delivered safely, on time and within budget

About you

You’ll ideally have:

• A recognised Civil Engineering degree
• Previous experience as a Project Engineer within civil construction
• Experience across roadworks, drainage, earthworks, structures or general civil infrastructure
• Strong commercial, planning and problem-solving capabilities
• Confidence managing subcontractors and coordinating site activities
• Good communication and stakeholder management skills
• TMR project experience will be highly regarded but is not essential
