Job summary

Fetch Recruitment is seeking a Project Accountant to provide financial and commercial support across programs and projects, ensuring accurate reporting, cost control and strong financial performance. The role covers cash flow monitoring, claims and invoicing, and risk mitigation.

Based in Byron Bay, the position involves collaboration with project teams, suppliers and clients, budgeting, forecasting and governance compliance, with a focus on construction-related financial management.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline.
  • 3–5 years’ experience in project, cost or financial accounting, preferably within construction.
  • Knowledge of residential or commercial construction processes is highly desirable.
  • Understanding of commercial, contractual, legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with relevant financial systems and technology.
  • Excellent organisational, analytical and planning skills.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare monthly financial and cost reports, including P&L, reconciliations, variance analysis and budget reporting.
  • Prepare and manage project claims and invoices, ensuring accurate substantiation and documentation.
  • Maintain variation registers and monitor financial impacts, approvals and outstanding actions.
  • Review subcontractor and supplier claims, invoices and supporting documentation.
  • Monitor debtors, creditors, work in progress and overall project cash position.
  • Prepare cashflow and cost-to-complete forecasts and identify emerging financial risks.
  • Track contingency usage and report against approved project budgets.
  • Escalate significant cost, cashflow or financial risks promptly.
  • Support annual budgeting, forecasting and project close-out activities.
  • Maintain accurate financial records and documentation.

Position Overview

The Project Accountant provides financial and commercial support across programs and projects, ensuring accurate reporting, effective cost management and strong financial performance. The role manages project financial activities, monitors cashflow, supports claims and invoicing, and identifies and mitigates financial risks.

Key Responsibilities
Commercial, Financial & Budgeting
  • Prepare monthly financial and cost reports, including P&L, reconciliations, variance analysis and budget reporting.

Risk Management
  • Identify and report financial risks, liabilities and discrepancies.
  • Monitor contract-related financial concerns and support appropriate risk mitigation.
